MICA's MFA in Curatorial Practice program celebrates the 10th anniversary of Station North Arts & Entertainment District by presenting Invited: The Anniversary List, which features major site-specific artworks at 10 unconventional show locations. The large-scale Maedeup for Sun Grocery is installed at Sun Grocery in Baltimore, MD in celebration of the store's 12th anniversary. Silk, the material which signifies 12th anniversaries, was the motivating force behind this installation. The Korean family that owns Sun Grocery inspired Moyer to utilize silk ties to create Maedeup, Korean Knots, in three sculptures within this inner city grocery. Maedeup, traditionally made and worn by women, becomes a contradiction when formed in neckties typically worn by men. Moyer began creating with neckties in 2009 after receiving 36 of her late grandfather's neckties to make wearable art from. Maedeup for Sun Grocery draws the traditional craft Maedeup into the contemporary art world through the conversations not-so-traditional material choices create.
